Horses take a winter break

We are on winter break at Free Rein until February. I gave the horses some carrots for Christmas, and carmel corn to the volunteers.

Minis come to visit

This fall one of the volunteers at Free Rein brought her two minis to visit the riders. Their name’s were Mr. Owl and Pooh Bear. They are sooo cute and can literally put their head in my lap! This also was the day that my friend Lynn from Life Center Church came out to watch me ride. It was a great day!

Halloween 2012

Hope everybody had a wonderful Halloween, I know I did! Last Friday I had a great party with my Heros group (social group for young adults with disabilities). Wednesday at the Spokane Guild School, I read ‘Clifford’s First Halloween’ and then Trick-or-Treated around the building with my preschool class.

Back in the Saddle

I am excited to report that we have started riding again. I am in a class with two new young ladies and had a great time in class last Friday. We are the ‘Triple A’s’; Andrea, Amber and Allison. Free Rein has two new horses in training. They have started a “Dreamer Fund” which will be used for future medical care for any of the horses in an emergency in honor of Dreamer.

Free Rein Horses

Our Free Rein horse, Harley, retired as of the end of August. Also there was some sad news at the barn this weekend. Dreamer, their appaloosa, got very sick with colic. He was trailered to WSU, but they were unable to stop the colic from becoming fatal. Riding was scheduled to begin this week after a Labor Day break, but because of this news and the need to reschedule classes; we will not start again until next week.

Presentation to Community Images Students

On May 29th, I had the opportunity to read my book to the students in the Community Images Program at Spokane Community College. I was a student in this program for two years. It was so fun to go and see my teachers, Ms. Shank, Mrs. Coast and Ms Liz. I shared with their students the importance of having a goal and striving to achieve it.

Off to Publishers

I am sooo excited to tell everyone that my manuscript is on its way to four different publishers. Now I just have to wait to get word back from them.

Locks of Love Haircut

Me and my hair!

I finally decided to get my haircut and cut off 12″ to send to Locks of Love.

Bloomsday 2012

Living in Spokane; an annual spring tradition is the running of the Lilac Bloomsday Road Race. May 5th marked the 36th running of the 12 kilometer journey. Mom pushed me in my jogger which dad, Grandpa Swenson and I made several years ago and we were joined by 47,882 other bloomies. We completed the course in 2 hours and 15 minutes. To read more about our fun run check out their website at www.bloomsdayrun.org.

Guild School Board of Directors

Tuesday night, April 17th, I was invited to read my book at the Spokane Guild School Board of Directors meeting by Dick Boysen, the director of the school.  Everyone enjoyed my book very much and Dick shared a story of when I was attending the school.
